In this continuation of "The Summer I Learned to Dive," nineteen-year-old Finley “Finn” Hemmings is living in Graceville, South Carolina with her grandparents. She's getting to know the family that she was separated from for the last sixteen years. Finn and Jesse's relationship seems to be going strong until they're forced to deal with obstacles that throw them off-track. As Finn prepares to leave for college, she has to say goodbye to the town, her friends and family, and the way of life that she has grown to love.

At college, Finn tries to acclimate to a new setting, but quickly falls into an old pattern. Just as things start to become normal and Finn begins to fit in, something unexpected happens that takes her back to Graceville where she is forced to deal with one challenge after another. Her world nearly collapses, and she finds herself struggling to keep from drowning. Through it all, Finn discovers the power of love and friendship. She learns what it means to follow her heart and to stay true to what she wants, even if what she wants isn't what she originally planned.

The Year I Almost Drowned eBook Shannon McCrimmon

This was a sequel that I couldn't wait to get my hands on! The first book was very well written and I couldn't wait to get more of Finn and Jesse and all the down home folks of Graceville. The Year I Almost Drowned did not disappoint!
The author was able to make the characters even more loveable! The depth of their development was amazing! I felt like I was hanging out with Finn at college and back in Graceville. She is very likeable and I couldn't help but become attached! Then of course the sexy Jesse and his desire to be a fireman. What can be hotter????
This book brought you through a lot of trials and tribulations. Took you through sadness, anger and hope. You need to pick this one up! It's a MUST read!

The Year I Almost Drowned eBook Shannon McCrimmon Reviews

I cannot wait for the next book in the series (I hope there is another one). I like the characters and Ms. McCrimmon is a great story-teller. I felt like I was experiencing the same things the character Finn was. I highly recommend these two books (read "The Year I Learned to Dive" first.
I ending up grabbing this one as soon as I was done with The Summer I learned to Dive. Oh I just love the characters and am so happy that we learned more of their story. This one had me crying and it takes a lot to do that....so worth the tears. Beautiful story.
The storyline was good. I would've liked to have seen more into the father daughter relationship aspect instead of all the teenage love stuff
Great characters that you fall in love with....such a nice romance, as well. I am not a teenager anymore but i could definitely relate to the many hurdles and emotional rollercoaster highs and lows of the main character. Watching her grow up and figure out who she is in her life makes for a great read.

Awesome development of characters!

Both of these books are very well written and enjoyable
Life is challenging and for Finn it really is. She went back to school with a broken heart and had to figure out how to live again. She's getting used to her new way of life and tragedy hits when her Grandfather passes away. She has to go back home where Jeese is . Her broken heart.
She has to grow up fast helping her Grandmother out. She loves it but still is questioning everything.
She even helps her dad out which is fun.
Tragedy hits again but she becomes strong and decides what she wants to do with her life and it's great.
This book, if possible, was even better than the first! Shannon McCrimmon knows what she is doing. She was able to write a love story, a coming of age story, and a loss story. You have the romance, but McCrimmon threw in death also. Finn is a great character to learn about. She is able to overcome so much in her life, and still make a huge decision at the end of the book that you can't help but love her for. This second of the series is amazing! Watch out for Shannon McCrimmon, she is one heck of a writer.
The Year I Almost Drowned is Finn's story about who she is trying to stay above water while life throws crap her way
It's about what happens after the Happily Ever After ending The Summer I Learned to Dive left us with. In book 1, Finn's life goes from disaster to fixed in a short amount of time. She has a family that she didn't know about, a wonderful boyfriend, loyal friends, a future and a place in life. The Year I Almost Drowned picks up where that left off and things start going wrong.
I got to say I wasn't the happiest with Jessie in this one. I mean I understand why he did what he did and it was the right thing in the long run but I still didn't like it at the time.
Finn grows as a character so much during this book. She figures out what she wants to do because it's what she wants to do, and not because it's what others think. She stays strong even when things are going wrong around her.
One of my favorite things about Shannon's writing is the way she describes scenery. It's in a way that I feel like Im in SC with Finn. The way she describes Tennessee and Graceland are my favorite.
Overall The Year I Almost Drowned was beautifully written and a great conclusion to Finn's story.
